What is a Pneumatic System?

Key components of pneumatic systems include:
Intake filters: Intake filters remove contaminants from the air that is being drawn into the compressor.
Air compressor: The air compressor system pressurizes, drys, filters and stores the air until needed.
Filter, regulator, lubricator (FRL) unit: FRLs remove moisture and contaminants at point of use, regulate pressure and provide light lubrication when needed.
Pneumatic valves: Directional control valves and proportional valves control the direction and amount of air entering actuators.

How a Pneumatic System Operates
1. Before ambient air is drawn into the compressor, it passes through the inlet air filter to remove contaminants.

3. When needed, compressed air enters the FRL unit located at the point of use, which filters the air, regulates the pressure and, in some applications, lubricates the air.
4. Pneumatic control valves send compressed air to the actuators.
5. Actuators convert the pressurized air into motion to drive pneumatic equipment, such as robotic end of arm tooling, air-powered tools, packaging machinery, vacuum generators, and other air-operated equipment.
