John Henry Foster Doubles Donations in a Fun Thanksgiving Food Drive
Last year, JHF (Eagan, Minnesota) donated around 700 pounds of food to The Open Door Pantry located in Dakota County during one of its yearly food drives. This year the employee events committee decided to mix things up by introducing a little competition and created teams. The committee consists of Katie O’Brien, Matt Mensen, Bobbie Halling, Jan Hawkins, Christie Koester, Linda Halvorson, and Shawn Firle.
There were four weeks to earn points by items and three teams: Team Gobble, Team Turkey, and Team Leaves. The team who earned the most points at the end of the 4 weeks, would win an ice cream sundae party! There were three separate bins labeled outside the lunchroom for collection.
Week One: Boxed Food and Personal Items (Donated to The Open Door Pantry)
Week Two: Peanut Butter, Oils, Flour, Condiments (Donated to The Open Door Pantry)
Week Three: Canned Foods (Donated to Fruit of The Vine Food Shelf)
Week Four: Fresh and Perishable (Donated to The Open Door Pantry)
In total, JHF donated almost 1400 pounds of food. Our winning team was Team Gobble with 842 items!!! Enjoy that Ice Cream Sundae, guys. Team Turkey came in second with 346 items and Team Leaves followed with 272 items. Thank you to all employees who participated!
Most of the individuals using the food shelf in Dakota County are working poor balancing multiple jobs and children and trying to figure out what’s more important: their house payment or putting food on the table.
