A fresh approach to ending local hunger through access to healthy food
The employees of John Henry Foster have a passion for helping those in our community who are struggling to make ends meet. As a company they donated $1,000 to the Empty Bowls Fundraiser.
Casey Donaldson, JHF’s Accounting Assistant, shared, “I enjoyed doing something simple to help families that have complicated situations.”
The Open Door (Eagan, Minnesota)—with the support of the community—is able to assist thousands of local individuals each month through a variety of programs designed to connect those in need with fresh, nutritious options. Through its collective programs, The Open Door serves more than 5,000 Dakota County residents each month, and distributes over 1 million pounds of food annually, 70% of which is fresh and/or perishable. Clients are able to access healthy food choices through a fixed-site food pantry in Eagan, multiple Mobile Pantry sites, the Mobile Lunchbox, and the Garden to Table program.
Empty Bowls is an important awareness-building and fundraising event to directly support the work of The Open Door and has become a highly anticipated event for the community at large. Empty Bowls is attended by more than 600 community members who come together to enjoy a relaxing, simple meal of soup and bread, while learning about the impact of hunger in Dakota County and across Minnesota.
The Open Door’s Mission is a fresh approach to ending local hunger through access to healthy food.
